JV Runners finish season with annual Ridgewood Race
The Westside JV cross country team finished their season off with the annual "5K" Ridgewood Race. The route is a popular run during the season for many Westside runners. This year, a record number of runners (21) stuck around the week after the Metro meet to compete in the race.
The top six runners earned medals which will be given at the end of year banquet at Westside High School.
This year's winner was last year's runner-up, sophomore Justas Balsys. Balsys finished with a time of 18:39. Following closely behind was Weston Perrine in 18:40. Freshmen Patrick Wilkening and Mitchell Coziahr finished third and fourth with times of 18:46 and 19:03, respectively. Sophomore Jordan Wheeler finished fifth in 19:37, after taking a wrong turn with junior Jehong Ahn. Rounding out the top six was sophomore Michael Palandri in 19:43.
"Apparently Jehong and Jordan took a wrong turn and had to bushwack through the neighborhoods," Head Cross Country Coach Derek Fey said. "Justas was out to avenge last year's finish and he looked strong holding off a charging Weston."
The varsity boys will finish their season with the district meet on Thursday, October 13 and the state cross country meet at Kearney on Friday, October 21.
